Ingredients
- 2 medium Sweet Onions (finely chopped)
- 1/2 cup Brown Sugar
- 1/4 cup White Vinegar
- 2 tablespoons Soy Sauce
- 1 teaspoon Garlic Powder
- 1 teaspoon Onion Powder
- 1/2 cup Water (adjust as needed)
- 2 tablespoons Cornstarch (for thickening)
- Olive Oil (for sautéing)
Instructions
- Sauté the onions: In a skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add the onions and sauté until translucent, about 5-7 minutes.
- Incorporate the sugar: Sprinkle in the brown sugar and caramelize for a couple of minutes while stirring until soft and golden.
- Add the liquids: Pour in the vinegar and soy sauce, followed by water. Stir until combined.
- Season: Add garlic powder, onion powder, and salt. Adjust to taste.
- Thicken it up: Mix cornstarch with a little water to create a slurry, then add to the simmering sauce while stirring.
- Cool and store: Remove from heat, let cool, and store in an airtight container in the refrigerator.
Notes
This sauce lasts about a week in the fridge. Great for drizzling over grilled chicken or vegetables.
