A delightful sauce that balances sweetness and tang, perfect for sandwiches and salads.

  • Total Time: 30 minutes
  • Yield: 1 cup

Ingredients

  • 2 medium Sweet Onions (finely chopped)
  • 1/2 cup Brown Sugar
  • 1/4 cup White Vinegar
  • 2 tablespoons Soy Sauce
  • 1 teaspoon Garlic Powder
  • 1 teaspoon Onion Powder
  • 1/2 cup Water (adjust as needed)
  • 2 tablespoons Cornstarch (for thickening)
  • Olive Oil (for sautéing)

Instructions

  1. Sauté the onions: In a skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add the onions and sauté until translucent, about 5-7 minutes.
  2. Incorporate the sugar: Sprinkle in the brown sugar and caramelize for a couple of minutes while stirring until soft and golden.
  3. Add the liquids: Pour in the vinegar and soy sauce, followed by water. Stir until combined.
  4. Season: Add garlic powder, onion powder, and salt. Adjust to taste.
  5. Thicken it up: Mix cornstarch with a little water to create a slurry, then add to the simmering sauce while stirring.
  6. Cool and store: Remove from heat, let cool, and store in an airtight container in the refrigerator.

Notes

This sauce lasts about a week in the fridge. Great for drizzling over grilled chicken or vegetables.
