Instructions
- Prepare the strawberries: Wash and hull strawberries, slice, and sprinkle with sugar. Let sit for 30 minutes.
- Make the shortcake: Preheat oven to 425°F (220°C). Whisk flour, baking powder, and sugar. Cut in butter until coarse crumbs form.
- Mix wet ingredients: Combine milk or cream and add to dry mixture, stirring until just combined.
- Shape and bake: Pat dough to 1-inch thickness, cut into rounds, and bake for 15-20 minutes until golden.
- Whip the cream: Whip heavy cream with sugar and vanilla until soft peaks form.
- Assemble: Slice shortcakes, layer with strawberries and whipped cream, and cap with top half.
- Serve and enjoy: Serve immediately with extra strawberries and whipped cream.
