Ingredients

  • 3 ripe bananas
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour (or whole wheat flour)
  • 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 2 large eggs (or flaxseed meal mixed with water for a vegan option)
  • 1/2 cup melted butter or coconut oil
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1 cup chocolate chips
  • Sea salt (for topping)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line an 8×8 inch baking pan with parchment paper.
  2. Mash the ripe bananas in a large mixing bowl until smooth.
  3. Add melted butter (or oil) to the mashed bananas and stir until combined.
  4. Mix in the granulated sugar, brown sugar, eggs (or flax alternative), and vanilla extract.
  5. Sift together the flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, and baking powder in a separate bowl.
  6. Gradually add the dry mixture to the wet ingredients, stirring gently until just combined.
  7. Fold in the chocolate chips until evenly distributed.
  8. Pour the batter into the prepared baking pan and smooth the top.
  9. Bake for 25-30 minutes until a toothpick inserted comes out with a few moist crumbs.
  10. Cool in the pan for 10 minutes before transferring to a wire rack and cutting into squares.

Notes

Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days, or refrigerate for a week. These brownies freeze well for up to 3 months.
