Ingredients
- 3 large yellow onions, sliced
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 8 oz cream cheese, softened
- 1/2 cup sour cream
- 1 cup shredded sharp cheddar cheese
- 1 tbsp fresh thyme or chives, chopped
- Salt and pepper, to taste
- 2 tbsp butter
Instructions
- Sauté the onions: Melt butter in a large skillet over medium heat. Add sliced onions and cook for 25-30 minutes until golden brown and caramelized.
- Add garlic: Stir in the minced garlic and cook for an additional minute until fragrant.
- Combine the cheeses: In a bowl, mix cream cheese and sour cream until smooth. Stir in shredded cheddar, followed by the caramelized onions and garlic mixture.
- Add herbs: Gently stir in fresh herbs and season with salt and pepper.
- Bake the dip: Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Transfer the mixture to a baking dish and bake for 20-25 minutes until hot and bubbly.
- Serve warm: Let it cool slightly and enjoy with crunchy veggies or chips.
Notes
For a lighter version, consider substituting Greek yogurt for the cream cheese. Serve with a variety of dippers for a full spread.
