Ingredients
- 2 cups fresh strawberries, sliced
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 2 teaspoons baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, cold
- 1 cup whole milk
Instructions
- Prepare the strawberries by rinsing and slicing them. Sprinkle with a tablespoon of sugar and let sit for about 15 minutes.
- Make the shortcake mix by whisking together the flour, granulated sugar, baking powder, and salt in a large bowl.
- Cut in the cold butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
- Pour in the milk and gently mix until just combined.
- Bake half of the batter in a greased 9×9 inch baking dish, top with the macerated strawberries, and spoon the remaining batter over the strawberries.
- Finishing touches: Bake in a preheated oven at 350°F (175°C) for about 30-35 minutes.
- Cool completely before slicing and serve with whipped cream or vanilla ice cream.
Notes
Ensure butter is cold for flakiness. Avoid using overly ripe strawberries to prevent sogginess.
