A comforting and nostalgic Overnight French Toast Bake that brings family together with its delightful flavors.

  • Total Time: 60 minutes
  • Yield: 8 servings

Ingredients

  • 1 loaf of day-old brioche or challah, cubed
  • 6 large eggs
  • 2 cups whole milk (or almond/oat milk)
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • Fresh fruit (bananas, berries, or apples) for topping
  • Maple syrup for serving

Instructions

  1. Prep the bread: Slice the bread into generous cubes, approximately one to two inches each. If using fresh bread, let the cubes air-dry for a couple of hours.
  2. Make the custard: In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, brown sugar, vanilla extract, and spices until well combined.
  3. Combine: Gently fold the bread cubes into the custard mixture, ensuring all pieces are immersed. Transfer to a greased baking dish.
  4. Chill overnight: Cover the dish with plastic wrap and refrigerate overnight to allow the bread to absorb the custard.
  5. Bake: Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Let the dish come to room temperature while the oven heats. Bake covered for 30 minutes, then uncover for an additional 15-20 minutes until golden brown.
  6. Serve warm: Drizzle with maple syrup, sprinkle with powdered sugar, and top with fresh fruits.

Notes

For variations, use different types of bread or add nuts for extra texture.
