Ingredients
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 cup water
- 1/4 cup butter (or vegan alternative)
- 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
- 2 large eggs
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- Vegetable oil (for frying)
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar (for coating)
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon (for coating)
- Chocolate or caramel sauce (for dipping)
Instructions
- Prepare the Dough: In a medium saucepan, combine water, butter, sugar, and salt. Bring it to a boil, then add the flour all at once, stirring vigorously until it forms a ball and pulls away from the sides of the pan.
- Cool and Combine: Remove the dough from heat and let it cool slightly. Incorporate the eggs one by one, ensuring each is fully mixed in before adding the next.
- Prepare for Frying: Fill a deep skillet with oil, about 2 to 3 inches deep, and heat it to 350°F (175°C).
- Pipe the Churros: Fit a piping bag with a star-shaped tip, fill it with the churro dough, and pipe long strips directly into the hot oil.
- Fry Until Golden: Cook for about 2-4 minutes on each side until golden brown, turning gently for even cooking.
- Sugar Them Up: Transfer cooked churros to a plate lined with paper towels and roll them in a mixture of sugar and cinnamon while warm.
- Serve and Enjoy: Serve churros with melted chocolate or caramel for dipping.
Notes
Make sure to maintain the oil temperature for perfect frying. Let the dough sit for at least 15 minutes after mixing to hydrate fully.
