A comforting and flavorful dish combining tender chicken and a rich, creamy paprika sauce.

  • Total Time: 45 minutes
  • Yield: 4 servings

Ingredients

  • 2 lbs Chicken (breast or thighs)
  • 2 tbsp Sweet Hungarian Paprika
  • 2 Onions, chopped
  • 3 cloves Garlic, minced
  • 1 cup Sour cream
  • 2 cups Chicken or vegetable broth
  • 1 Bell pepper, chopped (optional)
  • 2 tbsp Butter

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Ingredients: Start by chopping the onions and garlic. If you’re using chicken thighs, you can leave them whole or cut them into pieces for quicker cooking.
  2. Sauté the Aromatics: In a large skillet over medium heat, melt the butter. Add the onions, allowing them to soften, about 4-5 minutes. Toss in the garlic and sauté until fragrant.
  3. Brown the Chicken: Increase the heat slightly and add the chicken to the skillet, browning it on all sides.
  4. Add Paprika: Sprinkle in the paprika, stirring to coat the chicken and onions. Let it bloom for a minute.
  5. Pour in the Broth: Add the broth to the skillet, simmering gently for 20-25 minutes, until the chicken is fully cooked and tender.
  6. Finish with Cream: Lower the heat and stir in the sour cream until well combined. Adjust the seasoning with salt and pepper.
  7. Serve and Enjoy: Serve your Chicken Paprikash over egg noodles, rice, or mashed potatoes.

Notes

Taste as you go and adjust flavors gradually. Adding a splash of vinegar or lemon juice enhances the dish.
