- 6-8 Granny Smith and Fuji apples, peeled, cored, and sliced
- 1 cup granulated sugar (or brown sugar)
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice
- 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour (or gluten-free flour)
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, cut into pieces
Instructions
- Prepare the apples: Peel, core, and slice the apples, then toss them in a bowl with sugar, cinnamon, and lemon juice. Let sit for 10 minutes.
- Make the topping: In a bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, salt, and sugar. Cut in the butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
- Combine: Spread the apple mixture in a greased baking dish and dollop the topping over the apples.
- Bake: Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and bake for 30-40 minutes until the topping is golden and the apples are bubbly.
- Cool and serve: Allow to cool for 15 minutes before serving to let juices settle.
