A delightful and comforting dessert featuring a crisp topping over a layer of juicy, tangy frozen berries.

  • Total Time: 50 minutes
  • Yield: 8 servings

Ingredients

  • 3 cups frozen mixed berries (blueberries, raspberries, blackberries, strawberries)
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 1 cup old-fashioned oats
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour (or almond flour for gluten-free)
  • 1/2 cup cold unsalted butter (or coconut oil)
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Combine the frozen berries, 1/2 cup of brown sugar, and 1 teaspoon of cinnamon in a large bowl. Toss gently until coated, then transfer to a greased baking dish.
  3. Mix the oats, flour, the remaining 1/2 cup of brown sugar, salt, and the remaining cinnamon in a separate bowl.
  4. Cut in the cold butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  5. Sprinkle the topping over the berry layer, covering it completely.
  6. Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until the topping is golden brown and the filling is bubbling.
  7. Cool for a few minutes before serving warm, preferably with vanilla ice cream.

Notes

Ensure to use cold butter for a flaky topping. Consider adding chopped nuts for extra crunch.
