Ingredients
- 4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 packet active dry yeast
- 2 teaspoons salt
- 1 ½ cups lukewarm water
- ¼ cup extra virgin olive oil
- 1 cup mixed fresh herbs (rosemary, thyme, basil, oregano)
- Flaky sea salt for sprinkling
Instructions
- Prepare the Dough: In a large mixing bowl, combine flour, active dry yeast, and salt. Make a well in the center and pour in lukewarm water and olive oil. Mix until a dough forms.
- Knead the Dough: Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and knead for 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- First Rise: Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place until it doubles in size, about 1-2 hours.
- Add the Herbs: Gently deflate the dough and fold in chopped fresh herbs.
- Second Rise: Spread the dough onto a greased baking sheet and let it rise again until puffy, about 30 minutes.
- Prepare for Baking: Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C). Create dimples in the dough, drizzle with olive oil, and sprinkle with flaky sea salt.
- Bake: Bake for 20-25 minutes or until golden brown. Let it cool on a wire rack before slicing.
Notes
For a different texture, you can experiment with whole wheat flour. Dried herbs can be used but should be used sparingly.
