Crispy and tender steak strips marinated in buttermilk, coated in seasoned flour and fried to golden perfection. A family favorite that evokes memories and laughter.

  • Total Time: 45 minutes
  • Yield: 4 servings

Ingredients

  • 1 lb steak (flank, sirloin, or tenderloin)
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 eggs, lightly beaten
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp smoked paprika
  • Oil for frying (vegetable or canola)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the steak by slicing it into strips about one inch wide, cutting against the grain for tenderness.
  2. Marinate the steak strips in a bowl with buttermilk, salt, and pepper for at least 30 minutes, or overnight for best results.
  3. Set up a breading station with one bowl containing flour, garlic powder, smoked paprika, remaining salt, and pepper, and another bowl with beaten eggs.
  4. Bread each steak strip by dipping into the egg, then coating with the flour mixture, pressing the flour onto the meat.
  5. Fry the coated steak strips in hot oil over medium-high heat, cooking for 3-4 minutes per side until golden brown, then transfer to a paper towel-lined plate.
  6. Serve with your favorite dipping sauces like ketchup or garlic aioli.

Notes

Ensure the oil is hot enough for frying to achieve a crispy texture and avoid overcrowding the pan.
