Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Cream together softened butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy, about 3-4 minutes.
  3. Add eggs and vanilla extract, mixing until fully incorporated.
  4. Sift in all-purpose flour and baking powder, mixing until just combined.
  5. Divide the dough in half; color one half with desired food coloring.
  6. Roll both dough portions into rectangular shapes on a floured surface.
  7. Layer contrasting colored dough and roll into a log.
  8. Wrap in plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes.
  9. Slice into rounds about ¼ inch thick and place on a lined baking sheet.
  10. Bake for 10-12 minutes until edges turn golden. Cool completely before decorating.
