Ingredients
- 2 ¾ cups all-purpose flour
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 2 large eggs
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- Food coloring (gel)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Cream together softened butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy, about 3-4 minutes.
- Add eggs and vanilla extract, mixing until fully incorporated.
- Sift in all-purpose flour and baking powder, mixing until just combined.
- Divide the dough in half; color one half with desired food coloring.
- Roll both dough portions into rectangular shapes on a floured surface.
- Layer contrasting colored dough and roll into a log.
- Wrap in plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes.
- Slice into rounds about ¼ inch thick and place on a lined baking sheet.
- Bake for 10-12 minutes until edges turn golden. Cool completely before decorating.
Notes
Chill the dough to maintain swirls and avoid overcrowding the baking sheet.
