Ingredients

  • 1 cup long-grain rice (Basmati or jasmine)
  • 3-4 cloves fresh garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon ground turmeric
  • 2 cups vegetable or chicken broth
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil or butter
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Rinse the rice under cold water until the water runs clear.
  2. In a medium saucepan, heat the olive oil or butter over medium heat. Add the minced garlic and sauté for 1-2 minutes until fragrant and golden.
  3. Stir in the ground turmeric and toast for about 30 seconds.
  4. Add the rinsed rice and sauté for 1-2 minutes to coat it in the garlic-turmeric mixture.
  5. Pour in the broth, and season with salt and pepper. Bring to a light boil.
  6. Reduce heat to low, cover, and simmer for about 15 minutes until all the liquid is absorbed.
  7. Remove from heat, fluff the rice with a fork, and let it sit covered for an additional 5 minutes.
  8. Taste and adjust seasoning if needed.
