A delightful and comforting dish filled with a flavorful seafood mixture, served in a warm, crusty bread bowl.

  • Total Time: 40 minutes
  • Yield: 4 servings

Ingredients

  • 1 hearty sourdough or rustic round loaf (bread bowl)
  • 1 cup crab meat, shrimp, or lobster (pre-cooked or raw)
  • 1 cup fresh button mushrooms or shiitake mushrooms, chopped
  • 4 ounces cream cheese (or mascarpone/ricotta)
  • 1/4 cup fresh parsley, chopped
  • 1 tablespoon fresh dill or chives, chopped
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • a pinch of cayenne pepper (optional)
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 1 small onion, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Slice the top off the bread and scoop out the insides to create a sturdy bowl.
  2. In a skillet over medium heat, sauté the onions and minced garlic in butter until soft, about 4 minutes. Add chopped mushrooms and other vegetables, sautéing until soft.
  3. Mix in your seafood, cream cheese, and herbs, stirring well until the cheese melts and coats the filling.
  4. Place the bread bowl on a baking sheet and fill it generously with the seafood mixture. Bake any leftover filling in a small dish.
  5. Bake for 20-25 minutes, until the bread is golden and the filling is bubbly.
  6. Remove from the oven, let cool slightly, and garnish with fresh herbs before serving warm.

Notes

Ensure the bread bowl is thick enough to hold the filling. Avoid overstuffing to prevent overflow during baking.
