Ingredients
- 2 large onions, sliced into ¼-inch rings
- 1 cup freshly grated Parmesan cheese
- 1 cup Italian-seasoned breadcrumbs
- 1 large egg
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 tablespoons fresh parsley or thyme, chopped
- Salt to taste
- Oil for frying or cooking spray for baking
Instructions
- Peel and slice onions into about ¼-inch rings.
- In one bowl, combine breadcrumbs, grated Parmesan cheese, minced garlic, and chopped herbs. In another bowl, whisk the egg until frothy.
- Dip each onion ring into the egg mixture, then into the breadcrumb mixture, ensuring they are well coated.
- To fry: Heat oil in a pan over medium-high heat. Fry the onion rings in batches until golden and crispy, about 3-4 minutes per side. Drain on paper towels.
- To bake: Preheat oven to 425°F (220°C). Arrange onion rings on a parchment-lined baking sheet, spray lightly with cooking spray, and bake for 15-20 minutes, flipping halfway through.
- Season with extra salt as they cool and serve with your favorite dipping sauce.
Notes
Ensure the oil is at the right temperature for frying to achieve maximum crispiness. Let the coated onion rings rest for a few minutes before frying.
