Delightfully crispy red velvet churros, drizzled with a luscious cream cheese glaze, offering a unique twist on a classic dessert.

  • Total Time: 35 minutes
  • Yield: 4 servings

Ingredients

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • ½ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • ½ cup butter
  • 1 cup water
  • 3 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup sugar
  • Red food coloring
  • 1 cup cream cheese (for the glaze)
  • 2 tablespoons milk (for the glaze)

Instructions

  1. In a medium saucepan, melt the butter with water over medium heat. Bring it to a gentle simmer.
  2. Add the flour and cocoa powder to the butter mixture, stirring vigorously until a dough forms.
  3. Remove from heat and allow it to cool slightly before adding the eggs one at a time, ensuring each egg is fully incorporated before adding the next. Add drops of red food coloring.
  4. Heat vegetable oil in a deep skillet over medium-high heat. Use a piping bag fitted with a star tip to pipe churros directly into the hot oil. Fry until golden brown, about 2-3 minutes.
  5. Drain on paper towels and roll in a mixture of sugar and vanilla.
  6. For the glaze, mix cream cheese with milk until smooth, adding sugar to taste. Drizzle over churros before serving.

Notes

Ensure the oil temperature is around 350°F for perfect frying. Avoid overcrowding the skillet and allow the dough to rest for best results.
