Ingredients
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- ½ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- ½ cup butter
- 1 cup water
- 3 large eggs
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 cup sugar
- Red food coloring
- 1 cup cream cheese (for the glaze)
- 2 tablespoons milk (for the glaze)
Instructions
- In a medium saucepan, melt the butter with water over medium heat. Bring it to a gentle simmer.
- Add the flour and cocoa powder to the butter mixture, stirring vigorously until a dough forms.
- Remove from heat and allow it to cool slightly before adding the eggs one at a time, ensuring each egg is fully incorporated before adding the next. Add drops of red food coloring.
- Heat vegetable oil in a deep skillet over medium-high heat. Use a piping bag fitted with a star tip to pipe churros directly into the hot oil. Fry until golden brown, about 2-3 minutes.
- Drain on paper towels and roll in a mixture of sugar and vanilla.
- For the glaze, mix cream cheese with milk until smooth, adding sugar to taste. Drizzle over churros before serving.
Notes
Ensure the oil temperature is around 350°F for perfect frying. Avoid overcrowding the skillet and allow the dough to rest for best results.
