A low-carb twist on a classic dish featuring ground lamb or beef topped with creamy cauliflower mash.

  • Total Time: 50 minutes
  • Yield: 4 servings

Ingredients

  • 1 pound ground lamb or beef
  • 1 head of cauliflower, cut into florets
  • 1 cup diced carrots
  • 1 cup peas
  • 1 cup diced mushrooms (cremini or button)
  • 1 onion, diced
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon fresh thyme
  • 1 tablespoon fresh rosemary
  • 1 cup chicken or beef broth
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 1/2 cup shredded cheese (optional)
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Oil for sautéing

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
  2. Add oil to a skillet and sauté diced onions and garlic until fragrant.
  3. Cook the ground meat in the skillet until browned, breaking it up as it cooks.
  4. Stir in the chopped vegetables, herbs, and broth; let it simmer for 10 minutes.
  5. Boil the cauliflower until tender, then blend with cream, cheese, salt, and nutmeg until smooth.
  6. Transfer the meat mixture to a baking dish and top with cauliflower mash, spreading it evenly.
  7. Bake for 20-25 minutes or until the top is golden and bubbly.
  8. Cool for a few minutes before serving.

Notes

For a vegan version, use lentils or mushrooms as a base and coconut cream instead of heavy cream.
