A hearty and comforting dish featuring layers of rich meat and vegetables beneath a creamy mashed potato topping.

  • Total Time: 45 minutes
  • Yield: 4 servings

Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground lamb (or beef/turkey)
  • 2 cups mashed potatoes
  • 1 onion, diced
  • 2 carrots, diced
  • 1 cup peas
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 cup beef or vegetable broth
  • 2 tsp fresh thyme
  • 1 tsp fresh rosemary
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • Optional: garlic mushrooms, corn, or celery

Instructions

  1. Prepare the mashed potatoes: Peel and dice your potatoes. Boil until tender, drain, and mash with butter, cream, salt, and pepper.
  2. Cook the filling: Sauté onions in olive oil until golden. Add ground meat and cook until browned. Mix in carrots and peas, season with herbs, salt, and pepper.
  3. Assemble the dish: Spread meat and veggies in a baking dish, layer with mashed potatoes, then create peaks.
  4. Bake: Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C) and bake for about 30 minutes until golden and bubbling.
  5. Serve and enjoy: Let cool a bit before digging in to appreciate the comforting flavors.

Notes

You can substitute ground meat with mushrooms for a vegetarian version. Use low-fat milk or Greek yogurt in the mash for a lighter dish.
