Ingredients
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 3/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1 tablespoon baking powder
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 2 large eggs
- 1 cup whole milk or buttermilk
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/4 cup melted butter
- Oil for frying
- 1 cup powdered sugar (for glaze)
- Milk (for glaze consistency)
- Optional flavorings (cinnamon, almond, etc.)
Instructions
- Prepare the Dough: In a large bowl, mix flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt. In another bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, melted butter, and vanilla extract. Combine the wet and dry ingredients until just mixed.
- Shape Your Donuts: Turn the dough onto a floured surface and gently roll it out to about half an inch thick. Use a heart-shaped cookie cutter to cut out your donuts.
- Heat the Oil: In a deep frying pan, heat about two inches of oil until it reaches 375°F.
- Fry the Donuts: Carefully place the heart-shaped donuts into the hot oil, frying them until golden brown, about 2-3 minutes on each side.
- Add the Glaze: Mix powdered sugar with a splash of milk and your choice of flavorings. Dip each donut in glaze and set aside to dry.
- Decorate or Serve: Top with sprinkles, crushed nuts, or drizzle with more glaze. Serve them warm.
Notes
Experiment with different toppings and fillings for variety. Be careful to maintain the oil temperature for perfect frying.
