Ingredients
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 3/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
- 1 1/2 tsp baking powder
- 1 1/2 tsp baking soda
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 2 large eggs
- 1 cup buttermilk
- 1/2 cup vegetable oil
- 2 tsp vanilla extract
- 1 cup fresh strawberries, sliced
- Whipped cream for topping
Instructions
- Preheat your oven: Set it to 350°F (175°C). Grease a heart-shaped cake pan and line the bottom with parchment paper for easy removal.
- Mix the dry ingredients: In a large mixing bowl, whisk together your flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
- Combine the wet ingredients: In another bowl, beat the sugar and eggs until light and fluffy. Add in the buttermilk, vegetable oil, and vanilla; mix until just combined.
- Merge the mixtures: Gradually add the dry ingredients into the wet mix, stirring gently to combine. Avoid overmixing to keep the cake light.
- Bake: Pour the batter into your prepared heart-shaped pan and bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
- Cool: Allow the cake to cool in the pan for about 10 minutes before transferring it to a wire rack to cool completely.
- Prepare the strawberries: While the cake cools, wash and slice the strawberries. You can toss them in a bit of sugar to enhance their sweetness, if desired.
- Assemble your cake: Place the cooled cake on your serving plate. Top it with whipped cream and layer on the strawberries for a beautiful finish. Drizzle with chocolate sauce if you’re feeling indulgent!
- Serve and enjoy: Slice your heart-shaped cake and watch the smiles spread. Every bite will bring back memories and create new ones.
Notes
Use room temperature ingredients for the best texture. Don’t overmix the batter to ensure a light cake.
