Ingredients
- 1 head of cabbage (green or red), shredded
- 1 lb mild Italian sausage, cut into bite-sized pieces
- 1 medium onion, sliced
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1/4 cup pure maple syrup
- 2 tbsp Dijon mustard
- 2 tbsp olive oil
- Salt, to taste
- Pepper, to taste
- Pinch of red pepper flakes
Instructions
- Prepare the ingredients: Shred cabbage, slice onion, and mince garlic.
- In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add sausage pieces and brown for about 5-7 minutes.
- Add sliced onion and minced garlic to the skillet; sauté until onion is translucent, about 3-4 minutes.
- Gradually add shredded cabbage, stirring to combine, and let it wilt.
- Drizzle maple syrup and Dijon mustard over the mixture; season with salt, pepper, and red pepper flakes. Stir until everything is well combined.
- Cover and let simmer on low heat for another 5-10 minutes to meld flavors.
- Once cabbage is tender, adjust seasoning, serve warm, and enjoy!
Notes
Feel free to substitute turkey sausage for a lighter option or use kale instead of cabbage for a fresh twist.
