A comforting one-pan dish that combines tender cabbage, savory sausage, and a sweet-tangy maple Dijon sauce, reminiscent of family traditions.

  • Total Time: 45 minutes
  • Yield: 4 servings

Ingredients

  • 1 head of cabbage (green or red), shredded
  • 1 lb mild Italian sausage, cut into bite-sized pieces
  • 1 medium onion, sliced
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1/4 cup pure maple syrup
  • 2 tbsp Dijon mustard
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • Salt, to taste
  • Pepper, to taste
  • Pinch of red pepper flakes

Instructions

  1. Prepare the ingredients: Shred cabbage, slice onion, and mince garlic.
  2. In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add sausage pieces and brown for about 5-7 minutes.
  3. Add sliced onion and minced garlic to the skillet; sauté until onion is translucent, about 3-4 minutes.
  4. Gradually add shredded cabbage, stirring to combine, and let it wilt.
  5. Drizzle maple syrup and Dijon mustard over the mixture; season with salt, pepper, and red pepper flakes. Stir until everything is well combined.
  6. Cover and let simmer on low heat for another 5-10 minutes to meld flavors.
  7. Once cabbage is tender, adjust seasoning, serve warm, and enjoy!

Notes

Feel free to substitute turkey sausage for a lighter option or use kale instead of cabbage for a fresh twist.
