Ingredients
- 1 cup Unsalted Butter, softened
- 1 cup Granulated Sugar
- 1/2 cup Brown Sugar
- 3 cups All-purpose Flour
- 2 Eggs
- 1 teaspoon Baking Powder
- 1/2 teaspoon Salt
- 1 teaspoon Vanilla Extract
- Food Coloring (red and green)
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Cream together butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until light and fluffy.
- Beat in eggs one at a time, followed by vanilla extract.
- In another bowl, whisk flour, baking powder, and salt. Gradually add to butter mixture until just combined.
- Divide dough in half; tint one half with food coloring.
- Roll out both doughs into rectangles on parchment paper, place plain dough on top of colored dough, and roll into a log.
- Chill in the refrigerator for at least 1 hour.
- Slice log into 1/4-inch thick rounds and place on a baking sheet.
- Bake for 10-12 minutes or until edges are lightly golden. Cool on wire rack.
Notes
For vegan versions, replace butter with coconut oil and use a flax egg. Ensure butter is soft for easy mixing and chill dough for best results.
