Decadent cookies combining rich chocolate and tart cherries, inspired by the classic Black Forest cake.

  • Total Time: 27 minutes
  • Yield: 24 cookies

Ingredients

  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1 cup cocoa powder
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup cherries, chopped (fresh or frozen)
  • 1 cup chocolate chips (semi-sweet or dark)
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon almond extract (or vanilla)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  3. Cream together the softened butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until light and fluffy.
  4. Beat in the eggs one at a time, then mix in the almond extract.
  5. Sift together the flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt in another bowl.
  6. Gradually stir the dry ingredients into the wet mixture until just combined.
  7. Fold in the chopped cherries and chocolate chips.
  8. Scoop rounded balls of dough onto the prepared baking sheet, spacing them apart.
  9. Bake for 10-12 minutes, allowing them to look slightly underbaked in the center.
  10. Let cookies cool on the baking sheet for a few minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.

Notes

For extra chewy cookies, consider chilling the dough for 30 minutes before scooping. Make sure to use room temperature butter and eggs for better mixing.
