Delicious French Dip Squares filled with savory beef, caramelized onions, sautéed mushrooms, and gooey cheese, wrapped in a flaky puff pastry.

  • Total Time: 50 minutes
  • Yield: 4 servings

Ingredients

  • Beef (Roast or Brisket)
  • Puff pastry
  • Fresh mushrooms (cremini or shiitake)
  • Onions (red or yellow)
  • Garlic (fresh preferred)
  • Fresh herbs (thyme or parsley)
  • American or Swiss cheese

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
  2. Season the beef with salt and pepper, roast it until cooked to your liking, then let it rest before slicing thinly.
  3. In a skillet, melt butter over medium heat and caramelize the onions, then add garlic and chopped mushrooms and sauté until tender.
  4. Roll out puff pastry and cut into rectangles. Layer beef, mushroom mixture, and cheese on one half and fold over, sealing edges.
  5. Brush tops with egg wash and sprinkle with sea salt.
  6. Bake for about 20 minutes until golden brown.
  7. Serve with beef broth for dipping.

Notes

Avoid overstuffing the squares, and make sure to allow the beef to rest before slicing. Cool slightly before serving for the best texture.
