Ingredients
- 1 loaf of savory panettone, cut into cubes
- 1 pound Italian sausage (sweet or spicy)
- 1 yellow onion, chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 celery stalks, chopped
- 2 tablespoons fresh thyme, chopped
- 2 tablespoons fresh rosemary, chopped
- 2 tablespoons fresh parsley, chopped
- 2 cups chicken or vegetable broth
- 2 large eggs, beaten
- 2 tablespoons butter
Instructions
- Prep Your Ingredients: Cut the panettone into bite-sized cubes and let it dry for a few hours or overnight.
- Sauté the Aromatics: In a skillet, melt butter over medium heat. Add onion, celery, and garlic, cooking until soft, about 5 minutes.
- Cook the Sausage: Add Italian sausage to the skillet, breaking it up. Cook until browned, about 8-10 minutes.
- Combine Ingredients: In a bowl, mix panettone cubes with sausage mixture, herbs, salt, and pepper. Pour in the broth slowly.
- Bind with Eggs: Stir in the beaten eggs to bind the mixture together.
- Transfer to Baking Dish: Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C), grease a baking dish, and spoon the mixture into it.
- Bake: Cover with foil and bake for 25 minutes, then remove the foil and bake for an additional 15-20 minutes, until golden and crisp.
- Serve & Enjoy: Let cool for a few minutes before serving, garnishing with fresh herbs if desired.
Notes
For a vegetarian option, replace sausage with sautéed mushrooms or a meat substitute. Use day-old panettone for the best texture.
