Ingredients
- 1 cup unsalted butter
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1/2 cup brown sugar
- 2 large eggs
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- Optional toppings: colored sugar or chocolate chips
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and prepare a 9×13 inch baking pan by lining it with parchment paper.
- Cream together the butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until light and fluffy, about 2-3 minutes.
- Add the eggs one at a time, fully incorporating each before adding the next, then mix in the vanilla extract.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, mixing until combined.
- Spread the dough evenly in the prepared pan and smooth the top.
- Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until the top is lightly golden and a toothpick comes out clean.
- Let cool for about 10 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.
- Slice into squares and serve.
Notes
For a dairy-free version, substitute butter with coconut oil. You can also use sugar substitutes like erythritol for a lower sugar option.
