Ingredients
- 4 cups fresh cranberries
- 2 cups granulated sugar
- 1 cup freshly squeezed orange juice
- 2 tablespoons orange zest
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon (or allspice)
- 1/4 cup water
Instructions
- Rinse cranberries and pick out any stems or mushy berries. Zest and juice the oranges.
- In a large saucepan, combine cranberries, orange juice, a pinch of salt, and water over medium heat. Stir occasionally until cranberries begin to burst (5-7 minutes).
- Gradually add sugar to the mixture, stirring until fully dissolved.
- Add orange zest and cinnamon, then simmer for an additional 10-15 minutes until thickened.
- Pour hot jam into sterilized jars, leaving 1/4-inch headspace. Wipe rims and seal jars tightly.
- Cool at room temperature and store in refrigerator or process for long-term storage.
Notes
To avoid overcooking, monitor the jam during simmering. A small plate test can help determine if the consistency is to your liking.
