Ingredients
- 1 1/2 cups whole wheat flour
- 1/2 cup black sesame seeds
- 3/4 cup brown sugar
- 1/4 cup white sugar
- 3 large eggs
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1 tsp baking powder
- 1 cup milk (or plant-based milk)
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- Optional: citrus zest or spices like cinnamon
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a loaf pan or line it with parchment paper.
- If using whole black sesame seeds, toast them in a skillet over medium heat for 3-5 minutes, then grind into a fine paste.
- Cream together the softened butter, brown sugar, and white sugar until light and fluffy.
- Add the eggs gradually, mixing well after each addition.
- Mix in the black sesame paste and vanilla extract until combined.
- In another bowl, whisk together the whole wheat flour and baking powder; add to the wet ingredients alternately with the milk.
- Pour the batter into the prepared loaf pan and bake for 50-60 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.
- Allow the cake to cool in the pan for 10 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.
Notes
For a gluten-free option, substitute whole wheat flour with spelt flour. Consider adding a light drizzle of honey or a sprinkle of nuts for extra flavor.
