Delicious, soft, and chewy pretzel bites, perfect for dipping and sharing, reminiscent of family gatherings.

  • Total Time: 45 minutes
  • Yield: 4 servings

Ingredients

  • 4 cups all-purpose flour (or whole wheat flour for a nuttier flavor)
  • 1 packet active dry yeast
  • 1 ½ cups warm water (around 110°F)
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • ½ cup melted butter
  • 1 tablespoon kosher salt
  • ½ cup baking soda (for boiling)
  • Coarse salt (for topping)

Instructions

  1. Warm the water and stir in the sugar and yeast, letting it sit for about 5 minutes until foamy.
  2. In a bowl, combine flour and salt. Add the yeast mixture and melted butter, mixing until a dough forms, then knead for 5-7 minutes.
  3. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover, and allow it to rise for about 1 hour or until it doubles in size.
  4. Punch down the dough, divide it into pieces, roll into ropes, and cut into 1-inch pieces.
  5. Boil water with baking soda, then drop in pretzel bites for 30 seconds and transfer to a lined baking sheet.
  6. Brush with beaten egg, sprinkle with coarse salt, and bake at 425°F for 12-15 minutes until golden.

Notes

For a gluten-free option, use almond flour instead of all-purpose flour. Cool and store leftovers in an airtight container for 2-3 days or freeze for up to three months.
