Ingredients
- 1 package puff pastry (store-bought or homemade)
- 8 oz deli ham, sliced
- 8 oz sharp cheddar cheese, shredded
- 8 oz mozzarella or Gruyère cheese, shredded
- 1 egg (for egg wash)
- 1 tbsp water (for egg wash)
- Fresh herbs (rosemary, thyme, or parsley – optional)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
- Roll out the puff pastry on a floured surface until it’s about 1/8 inch thick. Cut the pastry into a tree shape.
- Layer the ham evenly across the center of the tree.
- Sprinkle shredded cheese over the ham generously.
- If using, sprinkle fresh herbs over the cheese.
- Cut slits on either side of the filling, about 1 inch apart.
- Fold the sections over the filling, alternating sides to create ‘branches.’
- Brush the pastry with egg wash for a golden finish.
- Bake for 20-25 minutes or until golden brown and puffed.
- Let it cool for a few moments before serving.
Notes
This dish can also be made vegetarian by substituting ham with a medley of roasted vegetables.
