A tangy and fizzy punch that embodies the spirit of holiday gatherings, made with fresh cranberries, ginger, and citrus.

  • Total Time: 35 minutes
  • Yield: 8 servings

Ingredients

  • 2 cups fresh cranberries
  • 1 thumb-sized piece of fresh ginger, peeled and sliced thinly
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar (or to taste)
  • 4 cups water
  • 1/2 cup fresh lemon or orange juice
  • 4 cups ginger ale or tonic water
  • Optional: vodka or rum to taste

Instructions

  1. Rinse the fresh cranberries under cold water. If using frozen cranberries, add them straight into the pot.
  2. In a saucepan, combine cranberries, sliced ginger, sugar, and water. Bring to a gentle simmer over medium heat, stirring occasionally.
  3. Lower the heat and maintain a light simmer, cooking for 15-20 minutes until the cranberries pop and release juices.
  4. Remove from heat and strain the mixture into a large serving bowl or pitcher.
  5. Add fresh lemon or orange juice, adjusting sweetness if necessary.
  6. Let cool to room temperature, then refrigerate for at least an hour.
  7. Before serving, fill glasses with ice, pour the punch over, and top with ginger ale or tonic water.
  8. Garnish with whole cranberries, orange slices, or mint as desired.

Notes

Taste as you go to adjust sweetness. Can be made one day in advance; add soda just before serving.
