Ingredients
- 4 cups All-Purpose Flour
- 1 packet Active Dry Yeast
- 1 tablespoon Granulated Sugar
- 1 teaspoon Salt
- 1/4 cup Baking Soda
- 1/4 cup Butter (melted)
- 1 1/2 cups Warm Water (110°F to 115°F)
Instructions
- Activate the Yeast: In a bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until frothy.
- Mix the Dough: In a large bowl, mix together flour and salt. Pour in the yeast mixture and stir until a shaggy dough forms.
- Kneading: Turn out the dough onto a floured surface and knead for about 5-7 minutes until smooth.
- First Rise: Place the kneaded dough in a greased bowl, cover it with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm spot until doubled in size—about an hour.
- Shape the Pretzels: Once risen, punch down the dough, divide it into equal pieces (about 8), and roll each piece into a long rope. Twist into a pretzel shape.
- Baking Soda Bath: In a large pot, bring water to a boil and add baking soda. Dip each pretzel in the bath for about 30 seconds, then place on a parchment-lined baking sheet.
- Final Touches: Brush each pretzel with melted butter and sprinkle with salt. Bake in a preheated oven at 425°F for about 12-15 minutes or until golden brown.
- Cool and Enjoy: Let them cool slightly before serving, and enjoy with your favorite dips.
Notes
These pretzels can be served with mustard, cheese sauce, or a sprinkle of cinnamon-sugar for variety.
