Ingredients
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 packet active dry yeast (2 1/4 tsp)
- 1/4 cup sugar
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1 cup warm water or milk
- Optional: pinch of nutmeg or 1 tsp vanilla extract
Instructions
- In a small bowl, combine warm water or milk with sugar and yeast. Let sit for 5-10 minutes until frothy.
- In a mixing bowl, whisk together flour, salt, and nutmeg.
- Pour the yeast mixture into the flour and combine until a sticky dough forms.
- Cover with a clean towel and let rise in a warm place for about 60 minutes or until doubled in size.
- Heat oil in a deep pot over medium heat.
- Scoop small balls of dough and drop into the hot oil, frying until golden brown, about 2-3 minutes on each side.
- Remove with a slotted spoon and place on paper towels to drain.
Notes
For extra flavor, consider adding herbs or using whole wheat flour to increase fiber content.
