A flavorful Chinese BBQ pork recipe that brings the warmth of street markets into your home.

  • Total Time: 220 minutes
  • Yield: 4 servings

Ingredients

  • 2 lbs Pork Shoulder or Pork Belly
  • 1/2 cup Soy Sauce
  • 1/4 cup Hoisin Sauce
  • 3 cloves Garlic, minced
  • 1 tbsp Ginger, minced
  • 1/4 cup Brown Sugar or Honey
  • 1 tsp Chinese Five-Spice Powder
  • Optional: 1/4 tsp Red Chili Flakes

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Marinade: In a bowl, mix soy sauce, hoisin sauce, minced ginger, minced garlic, and brown sugar. Add red chili flakes if desired.
  2. Marinate the Pork: Cut the pork into strips, place it in a resealable bag, and pour the marinade over it. Seal and marinate for at least 3 hours, preferably overnight.
  3. Cook to Perfection: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Remove the pork from the marinade (reserve the marinade) and place it in a roasting pan. Brush with some marinade. Bake for 30-40 minutes, basting occasionally, until cooked through.
  4. Serve: Let the pork rest, slice, and serve with steamed rice or buns. Garnish with green onions if desired.

Notes

For a vegan option, substitute pork with firm tofu or seitan. Make sure to let the meat rest after cooking to retain its juices.
