A simple and delightful recipe for Japanese dango, perfect for family gatherings and quick treats.

  • Total Time: 17 minutes
  • Yield: 4 servings

Ingredients

  • 1 cup sweet rice flour (Mochiko)
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 3/4 cup water
  • Soy sauce (for glazing)
  • Sweet soy sauce (for drizzling)

Instructions

  1. In a mixing bowl, combine sweet rice flour and sugar. Gradually add water while stirring until it forms a smooth dough.
  2. Divide the dough into smaller portions and roll each into a ball the size of a marble.
  3. Thread three or four dumplings onto a bamboo skewer.
  4. Fill a steamer pot with water and bring it to a gentle boil. Place the skewers in the steamer and cover.
  5. Steam the dumplings for about 5-7 minutes, until they are firm and slightly translucent.
  6. Remove the skewers from the steamer, drizzle with sweet soy sauce if desired, and serve.

Notes

Use non-stick spray to prevent sticking in the steamer. Be careful not to overcrowd the steamer for even cooking.
