A festive pie featuring tart cranberries and warm spices, encased in a flaky crust, perfect for holiday gatherings.

  • Total Time: 80 minutes
  • Yield: 8 servings

Ingredients

  • 2 cups fresh cranberries (or frozen)
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon orange zest
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, cold and cubed
  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • Cold water as needed

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. In a mixing bowl, combine flour and salt. Cut in the cold butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs, then add cold water as needed to form a dough. Chill for 30 minutes.
  3. In a medium saucepan, combine fresh cranberries, granulated sugar, brown sugar, orange zest, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt. Cook over medium heat for about 10 minutes until the cranberries soften.
  4. In a separate bowl, whisk together eggs and then stir into the cranberry mixture.
  5. Roll out the chilled dough and fit half into a pie pan. Pour in the cranberry filling and cover with the remaining dough. Seal the edges and cut slits in the top crust.
  6. Bake for 45-50 minutes until the crust is golden and juices are bubbling.
  7. Let cool for at least 2 hours before serving.

Notes

Serve warm or at room temperature, preferably with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream.
