Ingredients
- 1 cup water
- 1 cup dark brown sugar
- 1 tablespoon fresh grated ginger (or 1 teaspoon ground ginger)
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
- 1/2 teaspoon cloves
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- Pinch of salt
Instructions
- In a saucepan, combine the water and brown sugar. Bring to a gentle simmer over medium heat, stirring until the sugar dissolves.
- Add the grated ginger and spices to the mixture. Simmer gently for about 10 minutes, stirring occasionally.
- Remove from heat and stir in vanilla extract and a pinch of salt. Allow to cool completely before straining into a jar.
- Store in the refrigerator for up to two weeks.
Notes
For a thicker syrup, simmer longer but be cautious to prevent burning. Can also be frozen in ice cube trays.
