A delightful homemade gingerbread syrup that adds warm holiday flavors to your morning coffee.

  • Total Time: 20 minutes
  • Yield: 2 cups

Ingredients

  • 1 cup water
  • 1 cup dark brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon fresh grated ginger (or 1 teaspoon ground ginger)
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1/2 teaspoon cloves
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Pinch of salt

Instructions

  1. In a saucepan, combine the water and brown sugar. Bring to a gentle simmer over medium heat, stirring until the sugar dissolves.
  2. Add the grated ginger and spices to the mixture. Simmer gently for about 10 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  3. Remove from heat and stir in vanilla extract and a pinch of salt. Allow to cool completely before straining into a jar.
  4. Store in the refrigerator for up to two weeks.

Notes

For a thicker syrup, simmer longer but be cautious to prevent burning. Can also be frozen in ice cube trays.
