Ingredients
- 1 pie crust (homemade or store-bought)
- 3 cups apples, chopped
- 1 cup cranberries
- 1 cup pears, chopped
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 1/4 cup brown sugar (optional)
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
- 1 teaspoon citrus zest (orange or lemon)
- 2 tablespoons butter, diced
Instructions
- Prepare the crust: Combine flour, sugar, and salt in a bowl. Cut in cold butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Add ice water gradually until the dough comes together, roll it out and fit it into the pie pan.
- Make the filling: Toss apples, cranberries, and pears with sugar, spices, and citrus zest. Let sit for 15 minutes to release juices.
- Assemble the pie: Pour the fruit filling into the prepared crust. Dot with butter, and optionally add a streusel topping.
- Bake: Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Bake for 45-55 minutes until crust is golden and filling is bubbling. Shield edges with foil if browning too quickly.
- Cool: Allow to cool for at least 1 hour before serving.
Notes
Serve warm with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream. Can be easily adapted with different fruits based on preference.
