- 1 cup brown sugar
- 3 tablespoons unsalted butter
- 2 cups whole milk
- 4 egg yolks
- 2 tablespoons cornstarch
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Instructions
- Melt the butter in a medium saucepan over medium heat until it bubbles slightly.
- Slowly stir in the brown sugar until combined and dissolved, for about 2-3 minutes.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together the whole milk, egg yolks, and cornstarch until smooth.
- Gradually pour the milk and egg yolk mixture into the saucepan, whisking constantly to create a smooth blend.
- Continue to whisk for about 5-10 minutes until the mixture thickens enough to coat the back of a spoon.
- Remove the saucepan from the heat and stir in the vanilla extract.
- Pour the pudding into individual cups or a large serving dish, cover with plastic wrap directly on the surface, and chill for at least 2 hours before serving.
Notes
To avoid lumps, whisk constantly while cooking. For added flavor, consider topping with whipped cream or crumbled cookies.
