Ingredients
- 4 boneless, skinless chicken breasts
- 4 slices of ham (preferably thin and flavorful)
- 4 slices of Swiss cheese
- 1 cup of breadcrumbs (can be panko for added crunch)
- 1/2 cup of all-purpose flour
- 2 large eggs
- 1/4 cup of heavy cream
- 4 tablespoons of butter
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Fresh herbs (like thyme or parsley for garnish)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Prepare the chicken breasts by placing them between two pieces of plastic wrap. Gently pound them with a meat mallet until they’re about 1/2 inch thick for even cooking.
- Season both sides of the chicken with salt and pepper.
- Place one slice of ham and one slice of cheese on each chicken breast. Fold the chicken over to enclose the filling, securing it with toothpicks or kitchen string if needed.
- Set up a breading station: Place flour, beaten eggs, and breadcrumbs in three separate shallow plates.
- Dredge each chicken bundle in flour, dip into the eggs, and finally, coat it with breadcrumbs.
- Heat the butter in a skillet over medium heat. Sauté the breaded chicken for 3-4 minutes on each side until golden brown.
- Transfer the chicken to a baking dish and drizzle the heavy cream over the top.
- Bake in the preheated oven for about 20-25 minutes, or until the chicken is cooked through and the cheese is bubbling.
- Remove from the oven, garnish with fresh herbs, and serve warm.
Notes
For maximum flavor, consider marinating the chicken in herbs and spices overnight. Chilling the breaded chicken for about 20 minutes before frying can help the coating stick better.
