Delightfully soft and chewy snickerdoodle cookies with a perfect balance of cinnamon and sugar.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon cream of tartar
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 3/4 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar (for rolling)
  • 2 teaspoons cinnamon (for rolling)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a bowl, whisk together flour, cream of tartar, baking soda, and salt. Set aside.
  3. Cream the softened butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until fluffy.
  4. Beat in the egg and vanilla extract until well combined.
  5. Gradually add the dry mixture to the wet mixture, mixing until a soft dough forms.
  6. In a small bowl, mix together granulated sugar and cinnamon.
  7. Roll tablespoons of dough into balls and then coat in the cinnamon-sugar mixture.
  8. Place the dough balls on a baking sheet, spaced 2 inches apart.
  9. Bake for 9 to 11 minutes or until the edges are lightly golden.
  10. Allow to cool on the baking sheet before transferring to wire racks.

Notes

To avoid spreading, refrigerate the dough for at least 30 minutes before baking.
