Ingredients
- 1 ¾ cups All-purpose flour
- ¾ cup Unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1 ½ teaspoons Baking powder
- ½ teaspoon Salt
- ½ cup Unsalted butter (softened)
- 1 ½ cups Sugar
- 2 large Eggs
- 2 tablespoons Espresso powder
- 1 teaspoon Vanilla extract
- 1 cup Buttermilk
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
- In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt.
- In a large mixing bowl, cream the softened butter and sugar until light and fluffy, about 3-4 minutes.
- Add the eggs, one at a time, mixing well after each addition.
- In a separate bowl, mix the buttermilk, espresso powder, and vanilla extract until smooth.
- Gradually alternate adding the dry ingredients and the wet mixture to the butter-sugar mix, starting and ending with dry ingredients. Mix until just combined.
- Divide the batter evenly between the prepared cake pans and bake for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean.
- Allow the cakes to cool in the pans for 10 minutes, then transfer to wire racks to cool completely.
- Once cool, frost with your favorite chocolate ganache or cream cheese frosting.
Notes
For added flavor, consider folding in chocolate chips or nuts before baking. Avoid overmixing for a lighter texture.
